Profile
The largest of Horling 2’s estates was that at Bradfield, straddling the valley of the River Pang in Berkshire and extending south to the Bourne. The second estate, smaller but still substantial at 5 hides, lay beyond the Bourne to the south-east and into the valley of the River Kennet. Both estates were held by Horling from King Edward 15 TRE, both passed to the same post-Conquest tenant-in-chief, the name Horling is extremely rare and the two estates were less than 4 miles apart, so there can be no doubt that they were held by one and the same man. These were the only estates recorded in DB as being held by someone called Horling and there is no reason to consider him in connection with any other estate or person.
