Profile

The DB entry for this estate at Toft records only that 5 sokemen of the abbot of Ely held it TRE and that they could not sell or grant the land away from Ely Abbey. The corresponding entry in IE (fo 43v), however, gives the names of all 5 sokemen, among whom Hunnoth 1 is listed third.

The fourth name on the list is that of Hunwine 13, whose name shares with that of Hunnoth the same uncommon first element. Given that the sharing of name elements was often a feature of Old English familial naming patterns and that both men are recorded only for this one place, Toft, it is likely that they were related in some way.
