Boia 39 held a small estate at Pendavey in north Cornwall as a subtenant of Robert 9, count of Mortain, in 1086; it was assessed for 1 hide and with a TRW value of 10s. He was described as ‘priest’ in DB and as ‘cleric of Bodmin’ in Exon (101b2), implying that he was a member of the collegiate church of St Petroc at Bodmin. If so, then it is likely that he is to be identified with both the Boia brother of Ælfric, Ælfwine’s son, and the later of two people described as Boia diaconus in the late eleventh-century manumissions in the Bodmin Gospels (Thorpe 1865: 627-8).Bibliography
