Bibliography
Siduwine 4 was the TRE holder of ½ hide at Brixton, in south Devon and between two arms of the Yealm estuary to the east of Plymouth.
Brixton lay nearly 30 miles from the TRE estate of Siduwine 2 at Tamerlande in west Devon, which for such small estates is perhaps too far removed for them to have been held by the same person. Furthermore, both estates had passed to different successors by 1086 and this favours them having different TRE holders, despite those holders having the same extremely rare name.
Nevertheless, the name Siduwine occurs nowhere else in DB except with regard to three estates in Devon (the third being that of Siduwine 3 at Ponsford, more than 40 miles from either Brixton or Tamerlande), and the possibility that all three instances refer to the same person cannot entirely be ruled out. Despite the shared and extremely rare name, however, other possible connections between the three estates and their holders seem too tenuous to outweigh the distances between them and difference in their successors.
