Profile

Two of Chenias 2’s estates lay on either side of the Otter valley in east Devon and the third lay just beyond the high ground to the south-east, and they were all within 5 miles of each other. This close proximity of estates (despite the differences in their sizes) and the fact that they all passed to Goscelm as tenant-in-chief after the Conquest serve to emphasize the obvious conclusion to be drawn from the extremely rare name Chenias, namely that all three estates were held by the same person TRE.
