Although there were other estates in Wessex entered in DB with the name Ealdwine, the west Dorset manor of Corscombe was, on balance, too small and too far removed from any of the others for it to be likely that the same person was involved. Ealdwine 19’s holding at Corscombe was one of two small manors, each of 1 hide with land for 1½ ploughs, in a vill dominated by the much larger manor of the monks of Sherborne (Dors. 3:8; 26:65). It passed by 1086 to a king’s thegn, Godwine, but the connection between him and Ealdwine, if any, is not apparent.
