Profile

Ginni 2 held two houses in Colchester that had paid customary dues TRE and were described in DB as belonging to Ardleigh.  Since the houses were held by Geoffrey 5 de Mandeville in 1086 it is most likely that they were attached to his estate at Ardleigh, held TRE by Bondi and Alric TRE, although other estates at Ardleigh were recorded.

Geoffrey 5 held most of his estates in succession to his antecessor Asgar 1 the Staller (e.g. Fleming 1991: 110n, 114-15) and so it is possible that Asgar had been Ginni 2’s lord in some way.   However, there is no evidence to prove this, nor to associate him directly with any of the TRE holders of Ardleigh.  Although the name Ginni was extremely rare there is no reason to associate him with Ginni 3, the TRE holder of land in Suffolk some 20 miles away, because both men’s holdings were far too tiny for any link between them to be considered.
