Profile
Heremar 3 and Alwine were the co-holders of an estate at Stoke Orchard, where the Dean Brook joins the River Swilgate in the Vale of Gloucester; Moore (1982: DB 1,45 Notes) states that the estate corresponds to the later manor of Downing, in the north-west of Stoke Orchard parish. As with several other TRE landholders in this part of Gloucestershire, DB notes that Heremar and Alwine had placed themselves and their lands under the power of the powerful magnate Beorhtric, son of Ælfgar (Beorhtric 36).Heremar 3 was the only person of that name recorded as a TRE landholder by DB, and there is nothing to connect him with any of the post-Conquest landholders of that name.
