Profile

Ingold 7 was recorded by DB as holding 2¼ carucates of the king’s almsland at Ilston in south-east Leicestershire in 1086, so it is very probable that he was also the Ingold holding another ½ carucate at Ilston as the subtenant of Robert de Bucy (Robert 55). If so, then it is also probable that he was Robert’s subtenant of that name at two other Leicestershire estates at Rearsby and Slawston, bringing his total holding to 4¾ carucates. There is some hesitation as to the correct form of his name, with two spellings pointing to the Anglo-Scandinavian form Ingold and two to the Old Danish form Ingeld; for convenience, the former has been adopted here. In either case, however, there is no evidence or reason to consider Ingold 7 in connection with anyone else of that or a similar name.
