Sigketil is thus identified as a younger brother of the important Lincoln lawman and moneyer Agemund son of Walraven (Agemund 7). Beorhtgifu’s appearance here and only here might be taken to mean that she was another member of the family.

Hackthorn and Cold Hanworth (from nineteenth-century boundary evidence once a single unit) stand some 6 miles north of Lincoln, on land stretching eastwards from the limestone escarpment of the Edge down to the river Witham. Sigketil and Beorhtgifu’s joint holding was the largest in a much-divided vill.
