Profile

Barni 2’s manor was at Leasingham, along a minor tributary of the River Slea in the rich soils of Kesteven in Lincolnshire.

His manor constituted half the assessment of Leasingham in DB, the other 6 carucates being sokeland of Ruskington manor, about 2 miles to the north-east and held by Toki TRE.  Since each part of Leasingham also had 30 acres of meadow in 1086 the division into two halves may have been fairly recent at the time of the Conquest, but there is no clear evidence to associate Barni with Toki through bonds of either family or lordship.

Barni 2 was the only TRE holder of this name recorded in DB and his manor was probably too far distant from those of people with a similar name – Barn or Beorn – for any connection between them to be considered.
