Ealhhere 21 was a free man whose tiny manor was one of three TRE at Felton Butler, on fairly open ground near the River Severn in west Shropshire, that were assessed together in DB and went to a single post-Conquest successor.  DB states that Ælfric, Alweard and Ealhhere ‘held Felton as three manors’, a formula that here as elsewhere may indicate that they were not tenurially separate TRE (Lewis 1990: ).  If so, however, it is not possible to say if two of the men were in fact tenants of the third or if all three were tenants of some other lord.

It is conceivable that Ealhhere 21 is the same person as Ealhhere 22, a subtenant of several estates in Shropshire in 1086, because the name was unusual and the nearest of Ealhhere 22’s TRW estates, at Albrighton, lay less than 6½ miles from Felton Butler.  Such a link is too tenuous to stand alone, however, and the fact that neither Ealhhere 22 nor his descendents had any tenurial association with Felton renders it more probable that the two men were entirely separate.  There is no reason to consider Ealhhere 21 in connection with any person of that name.
