Profile

The name Leodwig occurs only once in DB, as the holder of a manor at Chatsall. A second and smaller part of Chatsall belonged to the bishop of Lichfield (Salop. 1:9). The name Chatsall no longer survives in use, but the location of the manor, in the Tern valley on the north Shropshire heathlands, is known; it adjoined the bishop’s large manor of Prees, whose centre was 5 miles to the west (Phill. Salop. notes 1,8 and 1,9).
