Profile
Womerton, on the lower slopes of the Long Mynd overlooking the Church Stretton valley in south Shropshire, was held TRE as four manors by four thegns called Auti, Einulf, Aregrim, and Archetel. The first, third, and fourth of those names were unambiguously Scandinavian, Auti, Arngrim, and Arketel, and so Einulf is much more likely to be a Scandinavian name than Continental Germanic.Womerton was much too far from York, and the social circumstances of the two holdings far too different, for identity with Einulf 3 to be possible.
