Profile

Cynesige 19’s single virgate was at Huish Rhyne, a lost place on the low ground by the mouth of the river Brue in Somerset. It is therefore highly unlikely that he can be the same man as Cynesige 18, who held a solitary estate in east Cornwall, because the estates are 75 miles apart. This interpretation gains some further support from the fact that the estates passed to different TRW successors, Cynesige 19’s passing to Raimer the cleric as the subtenant of his brother Walter de Douai.
