Profile
Magni 3’s tiny holding was at Benhall, an area lying between the River Alde and two of its tributaries in east Suffolk and where there were nine tiny estates of between 1 and 80 acres divided between as many as twenty-five holders TRE. Magni was among six free men and one free woman holding one such estate of 44 acres and was also one of the four named as having been in the commendation of Robert 36 Malet’s antecessor; DB also notes that the soke belonged to the abbot of Ely.The only other estate held TRE by someone called Magni was nearly 70 miles away and Magni 3’s holding was far too small for any connection with that person, or anyone else with a potentially similar name, to be considered.
