Profile

Deoring was one of a group of seven free men commended to the local magnate Northmann who between them had 25 acres in the small (unidentified) vill of Kuluertestune in Colneis hundred, between the Orwell and Deben estuaries south-east of Ipswich. Their land passed to Roger Bigod and was worth 5s. in 1086. It is likely to have lain inland, since it had only one plough at work and none of the coastal resources enjoyed by many of the other vills in the hundred.
