Profile

Beorhtmann 3 was one of four free men sharing a small estate at Grundisburgh in south-east Suffolk, an area of low hills and open farmland through which the small rivers now called Lark and Gull drain towards the Deben estuary.  The total estate amounted to just under 20 acres with a value of 10s, of which Beorhtmann 3 and Ælfric held 14 acres; how that land was divided between them is not recorded, nor is it apparent if the two men were related in any way.  The four men together shared one plough and were presumably free peasants working their own small areas of land. Beorhtmann and Ælfric were both commended to Æthelric of Burgh, a local minor lord.

This was the only holding associated with someone called Beorhtmann in DB.
