Profile
Rozo 2’s estate was at Tollard Royal, among the hills of Cranborne Chase where they cross from from Dorset into south Wiltshire. The name Rozo originated as a short form of names beginning with Hrod- (Forssner 1916: 221), but the nearest instance of such a name to Rozo 2’s estate TRE was that of Robert fitzWimarc (Robert 14), two of whose estates lay less than 20 miles to the north-west of Tollard Royal. This is close enough for a possible connection between the two men to be considered, but the fact that nowhere else is Robert 14’s name abbreviated as Rozo, and the fact that the estates concerned passed to different post-Conquest successors makes it probable that Rozo 2 was a distinct person and that Tollard Royal was his only estate.
