Profile

Gest 2’s small estate was at Laverstock, by the River Bourne and just outside Salisbury in south-east Wiltshire. A larger estate at Laverstock was held by Wilton minster TRE, but there is no evidence to suggest that Gest was under the minster’s lordship. By 1086 Gest’s estate had passed to his brother Særic (Særic 6), a king’s thegn who also then held a nearby estate that had been held TRE by Alwine; this need not imply that Alwine was related to Gest and Særic, however.
