Profile

The spelling Alchemont undoubtedly represents the name Ealhmund and is the only certain occurrence of that name in DB. His only holding was a house in York and he was presumably a burgess rather than a rural landowner. Although the name Almund could in theory represent Ealhmund, it seems unlikely that the thegn holding land some 40 miles west of York in the Dales was the same person as Ealhmund 30, and that thegn has been profiled as Almund 3. The other occurrences of Almund in DB elsewhere in the country have been identified as persons called Æthelmund.
