Profile

Sælida 2 held one of two one-hide estates at Oselei, which is probably to be identified as Ossemsley on the wooded slopes rising from the coast at Milton in south-west Hampshire (Page 1912: 124-5; Coates 1989: 127; contra Munby 1982: DB NF3,5 Notes). Both of the Oselei estates were held ‘in parage’ TRE, indicating that they were inherited family lands, although this need not mean that Sælida 2 was related to the holder of the other estate, Godwine. Both estates had been absorbed into the New Forest by 1086.

This was the only estate recorded in DB as being held TRE by someone called Sælida and there is no reason to consider him in connection with any other estate or person.
