Profile
(Unknown Person)’s little manor was at Stanford on Soar in south Nottinghamshire and its tiny sokeland was at East Leake, in the next valley and 2½ miles to the north-east. The only other manor at Stanford, held TRE by Alsige, was of similar extent but there is not enough evidence to suggest any further connection between Ælfheah and Alsige.Given the relative proximity of their estates it is conceivable that (Unknown Person) and (Unknown Person) were the same person. The name Ælfheah was fairly common, however, and (Unknown Person)’s holdings were two of only three in the county that were held by Robert fitzWilliam in 1086 and so this succession provides good grounds for regarding (Unknown Person) and (Unknown Person) as distinct people.
