Profile
There is some uncertainty over this identification because although the DB entry gives the name as Lefmer (i.e. Leofmær) the corresponding Exon entry (151b2) gives it as Letmerus, which would indicate the name Leodmær. There being no independent way of resolving this issue, priority has been given to the form used by the DB scribe; it remains possible, however, that he was making rather than correcting an spelling mistake.Leofmær 9’s estate lay to the north-east of Bruton (the hundredal centre) in east Somerset. It lay 40 miles from the nearest estate held TRE by anyone else called Leofmær and 28 miles from the nearest one held by someone with the ambiguous name Leomær. Given the sizes of the estates concerned it is unlikely that Leofmær 9 can be identified with the TRE holders of either of these estates or with anyone else of that (or a similar) name.
