Summary

The name Alfrith occurs in DB as the byname of Edwin (Eduuinus Alferd) in relation to three estates the latter held TRE in Gartree Wapentake in Leicestershire.  It is probable that Alferd is used here as a patronymic (Tengvik 1938: 209-13) and therefore that Edwin’s father was Alfrith 4.  However, we cannot assume that Alfrith ever held any of the lands held by his son TRE.  All we can really say about him is that his son must have been born before c.1050 and thus that this represents his floreat.
