Profile

Lufa 6 is mentioned in connection with the DB entry relating to Farncombe, a manor on the river Wey in south-west Surrey that was held by Asgot TRE and by Bishop Odo of Bayeux (Odo 3) in 1086.  The entry records that Lufa was a king’s reeve who claimed the manor on the grounds that he was holding it of King William (William 1) when the king was in Wales (probably in 1081) and retained it until Odo arrived in Kent and subsequently attached Farncombe to the farm of his manor at Bramley (which must pre-date Odo’s arrest in late 1082 or early 1083).  Although the hundred supported Lufa’s claim, however, it appears to have been fruitless.
