Profile

All four of these estates are of a similar size and in a cluster well away from any other holder with the name Hearding TRE. Although Hearding was a rare name, the geographical proximity of this cluster of estates relative to the other estates held by people called Hearding and the fact that all four passed to the same successor, Richard fitzGilbert (who received none of the other lands held by someone called Hearding TRE), combine to make it very probable that these four estates were held by Hearding 10.  This interpretation is strengthened further by the unusual spelling Erding that occurs in these four entries in Domesday Book but in none of the others that refer to a TRE holder called Hearding.
