Profile
Leomær 22 is named in FBB (139v, as Lemmer de Priditune) among 22 minor tenants on the estate of Bury St Edmunds Abbey at Rushbrooke, 2¾ miles to the south-east of Bury, in 1086; the corresponding DB entry records 22 free men on the estate both TRE and in 1086 but does not include their names. Leomær 14 was one of Bury’s two biggest tenants at Rushbrooke, holding 30 acres and rendering 2s 8d. The implicit continuity of holdings between TRE and 1086 in DB does not prove that Leomær 22 already held his land before the Conquest, although the possibility cannot be rules out. The location of the Priditune that provides Leomær’s byname is uncertain.
